Representatives and Senators
Senators
There are up to 34 members of the Senate. The Members of the Senate are the only people allowed to speaking on the floor of the Senate. They are acting as though they have been elected by a district in the State of Maine. Each member serves as a member of 1 of the Joint Standing Committees. The Senate is the Legislative Body with more experienced participants and smaller to allow more deliberative debate on issues.
REQUIREMENT
Be elected at Training Session.
Have a minimum of 1 years experience at Youth in Government Program
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as a member of a committee that will be assigned by YMCA Office.
- Actively participate in the Public Hearings and Work Sessions of the Committee.
- Actively participate in the debate on the floor of the Senate.
- After receiving the Billbook, share your bills with members from your school so you can get ideas of theirs that you could bring to debate on the floor of the Senate.
- Take an active role in all votes that are taken on the floor of the Senate.
SELECTION
- Each Regional Training Session will elect either 7 or 8 Senators. Delegations of 10 or more will have 1 Senator, that will deduct from the total number to be elected at large.
- Interested Candidates must complete the nomination form at the Training Session morning session. They must be nominated by another delegate.
- During the "Elections Portion" of the Training Session candidates will be given a chance to speak about their qualifications for this position..
- Election will be by delegation according to the breakdown with number of votes determined by the size of the delegations.
Senators WILL NOT ATTEND the Leadership Training on Thursday.
Those senators that were elected, as Committee Chairs, will attend that Training Session |
