I learned comments from students at the 2012 program:

This was the biggest public speaking position I’ve had, and I learned that I love it, and have a whole new view of politics now.”

“Dare to step out of your comfort zone”

“ I learned that some issues I didn’t know we had and ways to approach them:”

“ I loved the formality, not taking short cuts in the process gives us a genuine

legislative experience”

“Great the there is no adult intervention”

“There is plenty of fire and passion for democracy in the Youth of Maine”

“Don’t expect others to speak up for things you think are important, you need to speak on

your own behalf”

“Students get to write all the bills”

“I learned that you shouldn’t be afraid to speak up if this is what you believe in.”

It is great that anyone can run for a leadership position.”

“That young people deserve more credit than many give themselves”

“The person who speaks the most is often the one listened to the least”

“Speak up even if your voice shakes”

“I learned how to speak to persuade others”

“The incredible amount of time and effort it takes to make a law”

“Politics is pretty cool”
