ELECTION PROCESS

NOMINATIONS

  • Nominations for office will be done on the evening of the session from the floor
  • Director will ask for nominations and go around to each group to get nominations for the office.
  • A participant can run for an office 2 times, and can run for an office at each caucus they attend..
  • A school could have nominations for all 3 sessions.
  • Schools can only hold 1 of the 3 major offices (Youth Governor, Speaker or President). 
  • If a student from a school wins the office others will not be able to run.  Exception, if no one at that training session is nominated for the position
  •  A participant may hold only 1 of the 3 major offices during their years as a part of Youth in Government.
  • A school can have only 1 candidate for Youth Governor.

VOTING

  • Every person in attendance at the caucus will get 1 vote.
  • They must be registered by noon time on the day of the Caucus session to be able to vote
  • Must be present to vote, if the participant has to leave their vote can't be done in proxy

ELECTION PROCESS AT TRAINING SESSION

  • Director will introduce the office and describe role and requirements
  • Director will ask for nominations and ask each delegation if they have any nominations.
  • Director will introduce Nominee to step to computer to give speech, continue through all the nominees
  • After all nominees have spoken, Director will call for vote
  • Each group will hold quick vote (Should be a secret vote)
  • Delegations will email or text results to Director to be totaled
  • Results should be sent (Candidate A—3 Votes, Candidate B—5 votes, Candidate C—0 Votes)
  • Director will announce winner and we will move to next election.
  • Winners of offices will be asked to download from website information about their role.

ELECTION OF SENATORS

  • To be elected to any of the seats in the Senate, the participant must have at least one year's experience in the program or be a Junior or Senior.
  • Each School that has 3 or more registered to attend the Augusta weekedn will recieve 1 Senator
  • Those Senator's can be decided after the 3rd caucus session.
  • The remaining seats will be elected at the Caucus.

 

 SELECTION OF GOVERNOR'S CABINET

  • Anyone interested in being selected to the Youth Governor's Cabinet, must submit an email to the Program Director (winymca@aol.com) prior to first caucus session.
  • Email must include:

Name

School

Grade

Position you are interested in

email address

phone # where the Youth Governor can reach you

  • Youth Governor will make all the selections for his/her cabinet, prior to 1st Caucus.
  • Cabinet may have only 2 members from the same school.

 

CANDIDATES FOR YOUTH GOVERNOR

  • Each caucus will select 1 candidate for the next year's Youth Governor
