Augusta Weekend

Where do the Participants Stay in Augusta?

Option 1: Host Families

  • The Youth in Government Program has a group of families in the Augusta area that serve as host families over the weekend.  Delegates meet the host families on Friday evening.
  • The host families provide a place to sleep, breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, and transportation to and from the program.
  • Delegates are placed with host families in groups of at least 2.  We ask delegates to choose a       roommate so it is someone they know.
  • Host families are great people and enjoy having the delegates for the weekend.
  • Once housing arrangements are made we will email them to advisors.  We ask that you double check them so we don't have to make changes once we arrive in Augusta.
  • Participants may make their own Host arrangements by contacting previous year's host and getting them to agree to host them for the session.

Option 2: Stay at Camp

  • We have an area Camp that has heated cabins that we have had groups stay at.  We provide the transportation to and from and the breakfast each day.
  • Delegates bring sleeping bags and toiletries for their stay at the camp.
  • We ask for volunteers to stay at the camp, and use it only when enough host families can’t be found.

Option 3: Hotel Stay

  • Some groups decide that they would like to arrange their own stay at a hotel.  This is at the expense of that group.  You must provide your own transportation, and Saturday and Sunday breakfast.  Delegation must have their own chaperone for the hotel.
  • We can give some assistance in what hotels we have had groups stay at, so you can contact them about arrangements and cost.

Option 4: Arrange own Housing

  • Very often delegations will contact past host families, or family friends or relatives in the area to stay with.
  • They arrange the transportation for themselves

Option 5: Stay at Home

  • Delegations from the Capital area often stay at home; they work on their own transportation to and from the State House.
  • Those local groups we ask if they can serve as host families.  It makes for a great weekend for the delegates needing a host to stay with a family that is participating in the program.
